Ballet Bar
The ballet bar is also referred to as barre.
This term denotes the handrail used by ballet learners and dancers for warm-up exercises. The term has also come to denote the warm up exercises themselves. In some instances this term is even used to signify the part of the class that has barre exercises. The ballet bar may be mounted on a wall.
Many companies now manufacture free standing barres as well. The bars are made of wood or metal. The standard height of most bars is around 40 inches. This can be adjusted according to the height of the dancer in the free standing variety.
The ballet bar is an important part of training for novice dancers. The waist-high bar helps dancers steady themselves during the initial part of training. The bar provides a reference point in exercises and ballet routines. It can also be used to provide resistance to the legs and arms in exercises. The bar is also the novice dancer's first partner in most cases.
The exercises done on a ballet bar are slow in pace and generally repetitive. The exercises aim at improving the dancer's posture and enhancing the body's steadiness. The exercises performed on the barre also help beginners strengthen their ankles for pointework. The barre is an important tool not just for beginners but also for advanced learners. The barre also provides support to the dancer as a a male partener would and is usually used before the dancer is introduced to her partner.
Ballet bar exercises usually start with plies. These exercises help stretch all the muscles of the legs and prepare the body for the exercises to follow. Plie's train the body in shape and placement. Another common exercise performed on the barre is the eleve that entails a rise on the balls of the feet. On the same lines, a releve is a rise onto the balls of the feet from a plie position.
These exercises also help to strengthen the legs, ankles and feet. A battement tendu is an exercise where the foot is stretched along the floor. Another barre exercise called the rond de jambe is performed by making a semi-circular motion with the working foot on the floor. Both the exercises help maximize turnout, hip flexibilty and leg strength.
Ballet Bar Brackets
Ballet bar brackets are used to hold the Ballet Barres which are used by the ballet dancers to warm up or to check their stability.
The use that these barres are put to makes strength tha bar bracket an important criteria while deciding to buy it. This is important as these Brackets and Barres that fit into them should serve every need of the dancer and any lax in quality should not be tolerated.
Some of the basic criteria the ballet bar brackets should fulfill are listed as follows. The bar bracket should be made of metal so that it provides the maximum support to the Barre that fits into the whole thing. These brackets should be attached to the wall using screws that are atleast 2 inches long and these screws should be fit into a wood stud or concrete.
These brackets should be able to hold Barres of atleast 6 inches in length. The most ideal design of Barre bracket is one that wraps around the Baree completely and provides it strong support with a lock tap and ensures it does not move when the dancer is working on it. The most ideal brackets are those that can hold two Barres simultaneously.
The Barres should not have Brackets that are too close together. This may seem attractive initially, but in the long run they create many hard spots on the Barre surface and thus proves to expensive. The brackets should always be angled away from the bar. If they are not, then the dancer has a chance of injuring his/her foot while bringing it down by slamming on to the bracket.
The adjustable brackets are also not a good choice as they are not usually strong enough to hold the Barres so that it does not move. They also make a lot of squeak noises and thus should not be a preferred option.
You should keep the above points in mind while buying a Barre bracket while designing you dance studio as it should have an environment that appeals to the dancers.
Gymnastics Equipment
